The Nearest Amenities – What every Resident should know Part 1/2

The Nearest Amenities – What every Resident should know Part 1/2

Here’s a little directory for those who want to get around in the estate.

3 nearest Coffeeshops – Don’t just depend on the Hawker Centre, these are the nearest 3 sussed out.

amenities_whampoa1(1) Wong Poh Coffeeshop at St Michael’s Interchange – 200 m walk (Zi char / Fish Head Steamboat, Indian Food Spice Central, Mix Vegetables Rice, Malay food – nasi lemak, mee reebus etc). If you take a bus back, go all the way to the Bus Terminal and tabao some food back.

(2) 74 Whampoa Dr – 350 m walk (Zi char / Mix Vegetables Rice, wanton noodles morning/day, indian rojak) I think this place is popular with the elderly in the mornings – there’s a bird ’display’ area next to it.

(3) 82 Whampoa Dr Tiong Shan Coffeeshop – 425 m walk (Tiong Shan Porridge – frog legs porridge and the usual porridge and raw fish, A thai-style Mix Vegetables Rice stall, a Ngor Hiong stall and others)

3 nearest Convenience Shops - Your local mama shops to get your quick fix.

amenities_whampoa2(1) Mumtaz 111 Whampoa Road – 150 m walk. Indian Convenience Store. Open till 11 pm (usually).

(2) Rajah Court Kiosk (Blk 107 Jln Rajah) – 200m walk. Chinese Convenience Store run by 1 auntie and 1 uncle.

(3) 74 Whampoa Dr – 350 m walk. There are 2 Chinese convenience stores in this block, but the one next to the Post Office offers a wider range. Out of the 3, this is the biggest one and you should get your Chinese spices from here! (cheapest cigarettes too for those who smoke!)

3 nearest ATMs – Need that extra cash before going for a Ladies’ Night? All ATMs are within walkable distances.

amenities_whampoa3(1) POSB ATM 74 Whampoa Dr – 350m walk – highly unreliable; often out of service!

(2) POSB & OCBC ATM 80 Lorong Limau – Outside NTUC, about 400m walk

(3) UOB ATM 86 Whampoa Drive #01-945 – about 400m walk. Sharing the space together with a hair saloon Winners Hair Cut. Old-style!

3 nearest Petrol Stations

amenities_whampoa4(1) SPC Balestier 462 Balestier Road

(2) Caltex Balestier 542 Balestier Road

(3) Shell 103 Moulmein Rd

3 nearest Supermarkets

amenities_whampoa5(1) NTUC 80 Lorong Limau – It’s newly opened just last year. Pretty small but enough to get the basic neccessities.

(2) NTUC Shaw Balestier - Located in the basement of Shaw Balestier

(3) Cold Storage – Novena Square [or] Sheng Shiong at McNair Road (Both locations not shown on map). Sometimes we go all the way to Thomson NTUC Finest – da best.

    HI!!

Would be moving in soon in a few months (waiting 2nd Appt) and really found you blog to be useful!!
Meanwhile, any place nearby for late night supper? Kinda like 2am 3am kinda late..

    Thks!!!

  • Pam says:

there are quite a few options in that area for supper. my bf and i frequent the 24 hrs prata shop located on kim keat road next to eternal life baptist church. it’s probably a 5 mins walk from you.

other alternatives you’ll have to get on to balestier road where there’s the 24 hours food centre next to boon tong kee restaurant, 24 hrs macdonalds on weekends or another prata shop hidden behind balestier point.
